The breaking news that Syrian chemical weapons are most likely to be shipped for destruction to Albania has created an unanimous public reaction. Civil society, environmental groups, young activists, intellectuals, public figures, and citizens started a Ghandi-style marathon of protests in Tirana. Every day by staying in silence in front of government offices, protesters will gather to oppose the decision of bringing Syrian chemical weapons for destruction to Albania. Today, we all gathered in front of the Prime Minister’s (MP) office to protest. A Syrian woman, mother of two kids gave a strong message in the name of Syrians, victims of chemical weapons. “Albanian kids should not have the same fate as Syrian ones” added the Syrian woman bursting into tears. Other activists and prominent figures also issued strong messages addressed to the government.

Ironically, the first action of Rama’s government when took the office two months ago was to stop the importation of waste as a measure to ensure environment protection. This was one of the key promises in its electoral agenda. Now it’s being challenged by the decision of diluting 1,000 MT stocks of sarin nerve agent and mustard gas, which implies officiating the image of Albania as Europe’s toxic landfill. The silence of PM’s office on this issue is not only concerning and unacceptable, but raises further questions. Strangely the opposition, DP party is silent too. Meanwhile “the virtual war” has started. Online petitions are being signed, calls for referendum have initiated, daily protests are being organized. I doubt this will go easy and unnoticed. Albanians are irritated that on top of economic hardships and everyday struggles, they are being served a new threat to their health, environment, country image and most importantly the future of generations to come. I am sure that if Syrian weapons will make it to Albanian shores, Rama government will be nailed by the public opinion. It’s “New Born” reputation will fall off the cliff, it will earn the hatred of its own voters, it will face serious grassroots opposition, and will be viewed if not as evil, definitely as a weak bootlicker that puts in jeopardy the life of its own constituents.
Instead our government should work on promoting the country as a tourist destination not as the toxic dumping ground of Europe, as it is clear our country is lacking capacity, infrastructure, and experience in undertaking tasks of this magnitude with such high degree of hazard. Our neighboring countries should worry too. Are they really comfortable with storing tons of weapons of mass destruction in their neighbors’ backyard?

Shqiptaret dhe Shqiperine nuk ja la me tapi as i jati as i gjyshi. Ne kemi qene ketu para se te lindte ky krimb dhe DUHET te vazhdojme te jetojme KETU-ne vendin qe mjaftueshem na e kane masakruar dhe gjymtuar pararendesit e tij.
Rama! Per te miren e ketij kombi qe nuk te ka asnje borxh, per te miren e familjes tende dhe emrit qe do te lesh pas, hiq dore nga keto marrezi. Nese ty te pelqen heroina dhe ”heroizmat” pune per ty. Ne na pelqen uji dhe buka jone, bulmeti dhe prodhimet e tokes sone. Ti rri ne shijet e tua ekstravagante, ne ne shijet tona tradicionale, qe nuk te prekin aspak as ty as ”egocentrizmin” dhe çekuilibrin tend mental.

Kjo eshte nje kerkese qe vendet e tjera ia bene Shqiperise, por qe Edi Rama akoma nuk ka marre nje vendim per kete gje, nuk po flasim per nje ceshtje qe vete Edit i lindi si ide brilante per te shkaterruar Shqiperine, ashtu sic po shprehesh ti. Gjithsesi kjo eshte nje dhurate qe na la ish kryeministri yne i dashur duke na futur ne NATO e tani duhet ti pergjigjemi kerkesave te tyre.

Ne kete moment ne dime shume pak ose aspak per te analizuar nese eshte qeveria ajo qe eshte ofruar (per interesa ekonomik) apo eshte presioni nderkombetar qe po e detyron ate. Kete do ta tregoj koha. Ne kemi zgjedhur ca lidera qe duhet te mbrojne interesin dhe jeten e qytetarit panvaresisht kerkesave te aleancave nderkombetare si Nato apo US. Keshtu qe shpresoj shume qe kjo kauze te na bashkoje perkundrejt cdo ngjyrimi politik, pasi ne te kundert katastrofen dhe haracin do ta paguajme ne qytetaret e ketij vendi. Do t’i bej thirrje cdo individi pa dallim orientimi politik te zgjohet dhe t’i bashkohet protestave qytetare. Kjo eshte kauza jone, eshte detyra jone te veme para pergjegjesise sherbetoret tane politik….

Pergezime Armela per kete artikull informativ, me fjale te peshuara mire e sakte. Qe nje kenaqesi leximi i tij sidomos kete mbremje. Jam plotesisht dakord me mendimin qe gjithe populli te bashkohet pa dallim idesh politike per te thene jo-ne e vet te prere, ate qe qeveria jone akoma nuk e ka bere, edhe pse eshte gjeja me logjike qe pritet nga nje qeveri e cila interesat e vendit e popullit te vet i ka (vertet) paresore. Po aq absurde, shqetesuese dhe nervozuese eshte edhe qendrimi i saj keto dite, ku kryeministri i cili deri para pak muajsh me aq zell e patos u fliste njerezve neper mitingje elektorale, nuk guxon ose deshiron te sqaroje popullin e vet per kete ceshtje. Me shume se kurre sot ne te gjithe duhet te bashkohemi e t´i bejme te ditur qeveritareve si dhe deputeteve te pozites e opozites se jane sherbetoret politike te popullit, asgje me pak, por dhe asgje me shume!!! E jo vetem qeverise sone por edhe atyre shteteve te botes qe mendojne se Shqiperia perbehet vetem nga nje grusht njerezish prej 100 vetesh. Dhe duhet ta themi fort qe te gjithe te jene te detyruar ta degjojne e mbi te gjitha ta kuptojne.

Trendi qe ne nuk mund te ndryshojme dhe influencojme vete fatin e kombit tone duhet te ndryshoje. Konkretisht duhet te mobilizohemi te percojme mesazhin tone anembane botes qe armet kimike ne Shqiperi s’kane vend.
